Rotem Nir, an Israeli Bassoonist and Conductor.
Born in 1998 Rotem started his musical education at the age of 10 at the Ness Ziona Conservatory of Music, He studied at “Thelma Yelin school of The Arts” and at “Buchman Mehata school of Music”. Rotem developed his Bassoon qualities with prof. David Gru from the Israeli symphony orchestra and with Prof. Daniel Mazaki from the Israeli philharmonic orchestra and The BMSOM. HIs conducting studies were guided by Prof. Yoav Talmi.
As a young conductor Rotem acts on many levels. When he was only 18 years old Rotem was already appointed to conduct the Ness Zion Youth Chamber Orchestra at the municipal conservatory. He studies at The Buchman Mehta school of music where he conducts the school’s orchestra on a regular base and Participated in a Master class under the guidnes of Maestro Ivan Fischer. As part of his involvement at the BMSOM Rotem won The conducting competition in a collaboration with the Haifa Symphony Orchestra, as a result he received the great opportunity of conducting the HSO in a series concert last March. On the same month Rotem was also invited to conduct the Israel Jerusalem Cmerata orchestra in a special concert featuring young soloists from the Ness Ziona conservatory of music. Rotem also assisted Maestro Ilan Volkov on several projects including the BBCSO, The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Israeli Contemporary Players.
Rotem’s Career as a Bassoon player includes working in some of the best orchestras in Israel such as the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra, Israel Symphony Orchestra, The Revolution Orchestra, and many more. Rotem played Under the baton of some of the Most appreciated names in the musical world: Zubin Mehta, Kiril Petrenko, Dan Ettinger, Manfred Honeck, Lahav Shani and Daniel Oren. Since 2013 Rotem is supported by the America Israel Cultural Foundation (AICF) and the “Ronen Foundation”. During last November Rotem preformed the Rossini bassoon concerto as a soloist with the BMSOM Symphony orchestra under the baton of Yi-An Xu. Starting next season Rotem will act as Associated Principal Bassoon player at the ISO, when he is only 21 years old.
